1. Management and Coordination

This is the strategic and operational management of the project, to ensure its successful completion within the timescales and resources provided.

2. Health Management

A network of experts forming the Health Management Thematic Group consolidates existing industry knowledge and validates the best practice identified through the EU PiG Grand Prix. It focuses on two challenges chosen by the industry each year. For 2018 they are, ‘managing without zinc oxide’ and ‘optimal vaccination strategies’.

3. Precision Production

A network of experts forming the Precision Production Group consolidates existing industry knowledge and validates the best practice identified through the EU PiG Grand Prix. It focuses on two challenges chosen by the industry each year.  For 2018 they are to ‘reduce emissions’ and ‘increase sow performance’.

4. Animal Welfare

A network of experts forming the Animal Welfare Group consolidates existing industry knowledge and validates the best practice identified through the EU PiG Grand Prix. It focuses on two challenges chosen by the industry each year. For 2018 they are, ‘loose farrowing systems’ and ‘innovative enrichment materials’.

5. Meat Quality

A network of experts forming the Meat Quality Group consolidates existing industry knowledge and validates the best practice identified through the EU PiG Grand Prix. It focuses on two challenges chosen by the industry each year. For 2018 they are, ‘reducing variation before slaughter’ and ‘producing tastier pork’.

6. Communications, publications and resources

To maximise the benefits of EU PiG, there are a range of communication activities to help connect producers and share tried and tested best practice and innovations. Resources will include virtual farm tours, photos and reports, to be shared on this website.

7. Regional Knowledge Exchange

EU PiG has a multinational network of Regional Pig Innovation Groups (RPIGs) which supports knowledge exchange among pig producers locally, to help identify and share best practice. They also play a role in identifying emerging industry challenges for future EU PiG Grand Prix competitions.
